NEW YORK ---It was a party with a purpose as hundreds of Assurant employees convened in the courtyard of the company’s Miami campus on Friday, Oct. 18 to play video games on their mobile devices. In the process of raising money for the United Way, the 685 game-playing employees also set a new Guinness World Record for the world’s largest mobile gaming party.
“We’re proud of our employees for their commitment to the United Way and the community,” said Manuel Becerra, president of the Assurant Solutions Mobile Services business, which provides mobile device and data protection for mobile operators worldwide. “This event was a wonderful way to leverage the power and fun of mobile technology to support an organization that we believe in.”
Employees paid a minimum donation of $3 to participate in the mobile gaming party, and more than 841 tickets were sold prior to the event. The Assurant Foundation will match the employee donations made through this fundraising event.
Assurant has been a part of the Miami community since 1948 and enjoys a longstanding relationship with the United Way. The previous largest mobile phone gaming party involved 510 participants and was achieved by Bharti Airtel Ltd - Team Karnataka in Mangalore, India, on April 5, 2013. Certification from Guinness is still pending for Assurant.
